The Ministry of Railways and NTPC will be organizing a National Conference on Fly Ash Utilisation and Transport on 25th August 2025 at the Power Management Institute, Noida. The event will bring together fly ash generators, users, transporters, and policymakers to deliberate on strategies for sustainable fly ash management in India.
In 2024–25, the country generated 340.11 million tonnes of fly ash, of which 332.63 million tonnes was successfully utilized. Railways will provide not only a green and sustainable transport mode but also an economical option through attractive freight concessions. With immense scope for scaling up, Railways is poised to play an even greater role in this national mission.
The conference will also hold significance in light of government policies mandating and encouraging the use of fly ash in cement manufacturing, road construction, mine backfilling, bricks, and other building materials. These initiatives reflect India’s commitment to the principles of the circular economy, cost efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
Fly ash, a major by-product of thermal power generation, presents both a challenge and an opportunity. While it requires safe and sustainable handling, it also holds huge potential as a valuable resource for the infrastructure and industrial sectors. The Ministry of Railways, in collaboration with NTPC and other stakeholders, will work towards developing innovative solutions for large-scale transportation and utilization of fly ash.
The upcoming conference will mark a step forward in building partnerships, sharing insights, and charting a roadmap for sustainable fly ash utilization across the country. The deliberations are expected to yield actionable strategies for cleaner, greener, and resource-efficient growth.
