Indian Railway’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Redevelopment Program: Redevelopment of Shamli Railway Station


 

Indian Railways is actively progressing with its extensive station redevelopment program, a significant initiative aimed at transforming over 1,300 stations across the country into modern, integrated transportationhubs. This endeavor, primarily driven by the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme announced in December 2022 by our Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, focuses o­n enhancing passenger experience, improving accessibility, and fostering economic growth in and around these vital railway infrastructure sites.Shamli Railway Station under Delhi Division is o­ne of the stations identified under Amrit Bharat Scheme for redevelopment. It has a daily footfall of 6,500 passengers per day, mostly daily passengers. Shamli Railway Station is set to undergo a remarkable transformation, with a budget of Rs. 25.0 Crore (approx.)to upgrade its facilities, making it a modern, customer-friendly transportationhub.The station was considered for redevelopment due to the following concern i.e. congestion in Circulating Areas, Limited Passenger Amenities, Lack of Accessibility Features, Lighting and Safety and outdated Infrastructure.

 

The key highlights of the Shamli Railway Station redevelopment project under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme envisages a "New Era" for Indian Railway Infrastructure. The program seeks to elevate the travel experience for passengers by providing modern amenities, aesthetically pleasing designs, and efficient operations. The redevelopmentefforts are focused o­n Passenger Comfort and Accessibility with Improved entry/exit points, waiting areas (AC & Non-AC), clean toilets, two lifts and Divyangjan-friendly facilities. Local Economic Growth through 'One Station o­ne Product' kiosks.Sustainable and Environmentally Conscious Development for which the building is designed for adequate daylight to reduce heat gain and improve energy efficiency of the station building by incorporating low-energy LED illumination.Biodiversity is maintained by retaining existing treescape and planting of native species in the landscape to promote local biodiversity and incorporating green patches within the premises. Divyangjan Facilities like Information System accessibility by signages and announcement system,providing Station accessibility through entrance ramp, reserved parking, low-height ticket counters, Divyangjan-friendly washrooms, help booths near exits, providing Platform Accessibility by Guiding tactile path, accessible washrooms, water booth with low height and Lifts.

The work of Shamli Railway Station Main Buildingis almost nearing completion as o­nly minor finishing work is in progress. The 12mtr. wide FOBis almost nearing completion as o­nly minor finishing and lift commissioning is pending.Platform shelter work is almost completed, o­nly roof sheeting work is in progress at some locations.Platform surfacing work is almost completed (Approx 70%) except for some portions.Divyanjan Facilities have beencompleted in all aspects i.e. Tactile Path, Toilets, Low Height Ticket Counter, Low Height Water Booths, Divyanjan Ramp except Divyangjan parking. The Circulating and Parking area work is nearing completion.
