On September 21, 2024, the Delhi Division of Northern Railway made headlines by successfully loading fertilizer from Karnal Station to Moradabad—an exciting milestone for the region. Previously transported by road, this fertilizer, imported from Norway and received in Sonipat and packaged at Karnal unit, is now set to travel via rail, thanks to M/s. Yara Fertilizer India Pvt. Ltd, which has recently taken over the former M/s. Tata Fertilizers Ltd packaging unit in Karnal.
Seeking a more efficient bulk transportation solution, Yara partnered with M/s. RSG Enterprises and the divisional Business Development Unit team. This collaboration marks a significant shift in logistics, with M/s. Yara aiming to transport around 3,000 tonnes monthly using mini rakes. This initiative not only promises to enhance loading and revenue for the railways but also promotes environmentally friendly transport practices.
So far, this partnership has already generated ₹ 14.16 lakhs in revenue, with projections of up to ₹ 30 lakhs monthly. By acting as a crucial link between fertilizer producers and consumption centers, Delhi Division of Northern Railway is paving the way for a sustainable and profitable future in agricultural logistics.
