Northern Railway to operate 2,944 trips of Festival Special Trains


·48 additional coaches in regular/schedule trains

Every year, millions of passengers travel across the country during Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja festivals. To provide a smooth and comfortable journey, Northern Railway has planned to run a number of trips of special trains during the festival period from 1 October to November 30, 2024.

To facilitate seamless travel for these passengers during the upcoming festive season, Northern Railway inassociation with other zonal will operate a total number of 2,944 trips of festival special trains to accommodate nearly 60 Lakh extra passengers. Last year in the corresponding period a total number of 1,082 trips were arranged by Northern Railway, this significant increase of 172% over the last year’s festival special trips aims to accommodate the surge in the number of travelers. These special trains will ensure that passengers reach their destinations seamlessly during festival period of the next two months.

Out of the above 2,944 trips approximately 83% services will cater to the passengers of east bound states viz. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam etc. The popular destinations for these special trains from the National Capital Region include Barauni, Samastipur, Saharsa, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Jainagar, Darbhanga, Jogbani, Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati, Howrah, Muzaffarpur, Katihar, Tatanagar, and Lucknow etc.

To further enhance passenger carrying capacity, Northern Railway will also augment regular scheduled trains by attaching extra coaches, thereby generating additional seats and berths. In this regard, 48 additional coaches are being attached to regular scheduled trains which will generate 1.94 Lakh extra seats/berths in the festival period.
