The layout at Crossover 149 A-B (connecting the UP main and DN main lines) was identified as requiring layout correction. A detailed graphical layout calculation was performed using AutoCAD, which allowed for accurate layout corrections before fieldwork. This ensured the precision of the design and minimized the risk of errors during execution.
Pre-block Activities (Planning & Preparation) like Marking of New SRJ (Stock Rail Joint) started on 5.10.2024. The new SRJ point was marked according to the calculated crossover length derived from the AutoCAD graphical solution, Assembly of New Track Components like a 60 kg, 1 in 12 thick web switch and two 13 m track panels were pre-assembled to minimize the time needed during the block, an additional OHE mast was installed by the TRD team and the Signalling team laid cables for the point machine in advance, ensuring smooth operations during the block.
For Block Execution the primary task was to shift the existing turnout by 27 meters on the UP line. This was executed during a 6-hour shadow block on 10.10.2024, coordinated as part of a mega block to reduce the impact on traffic operations. The work involved the use of 3 Hydras, 3 JCBs, and a T-28 machine, all of which played critical roles in shifting the turnout and realigning the layout as planned. The precision and coordination of the machinery allowed for a fast and efficient transition, with no significant delays.
The Engineering team of Delhi Division worked seamlessly in coordination with the TRD and Signalling departments. The TRD team was responsible for installing the OHE mast, while the Signalling team handled the cable laying for the point machine. This interdepartmental coordination was crucial in avoiding any disruptions during the block and ensuring that each task was completed efficiently.
The previous speed restriction was lifted, greatly improving both safety and operational efficiency at Jind Yard. The project was completed within the 6-hour block, demonstrating how thorough planning, precise machinery use, and effective teamwork can lead to the successful execution of complex railway layout corrections. Key Success Factors included detailed Pre-planning with AutoCAD, Pre-assembled Track Components by assembling the switch and track panels beforehand, Efficient Use of Machinery and Interdepartmental Coordination. This layout correction at Jind Yard serves as an excellent model for similar future works. It highlights how proper pre-planning, accurate layout design, efficient machinery use, and strong team coordination can lead to the successful execution of critical projects within a planned timeframe.
