The National Rail Museum in New Delhi marked its 48th anniversary today with the grand inauguration of the Rail Mahotsav 2025, a three-day celebration on 1st ,2nd and 4thFebruary . The event designed to honor the India’s rich railway heritage and tobring together art, culture, and community.
The Mahotsav was inaugurated by Ms. Aruna Nair, Secretary Railway Board in the presence of Ms. AshimaMehrotra, ED/Heritage, Railway Board & Shri Dinesh Kumar Goyal, Director/NRM followed by captivating cultural performances that won the hearts of railway enthusiasts and visitors alike. A highlight of the celebration was the lighting up of the century-old Patiala State Mono Tramways (PSMT), started in 1909 and NRM is in proud possession of the only steam mono rail locomotive and coach in working condition .The iconic Ramgotty steam locomotive, built in 1862, was also light up, offering a glimpse into the Nation's historic rail legacy.
In addition to this, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts (KNMA) has organized a series of engaging workshops, aimed at connecting the public with the fascinating world of Indian Railways.
This vibrant event is set to be an enriching experience for all, fostering a deeper appreciation for India's railway history while celebrating the cultural and artistic expressions inspired by it.
