Indian Railway’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Redevelopment Program:

 Redevelopment of Abohar Railway Station

Indian Railways is actively progressing with its extensive station redevelopment program, a significant initiative aimed at transforming over stations across the country into modern, integrated transportation hubs. This endeavor, primarily driven by the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme announced in December 2022 by our Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, focuses on enhancing passenger experience, improving accessibility, and fostering economic growth in and around these vital railway infrastructure sites.

Abohar Railway Station under Ambala Division is one of the stations identified under Amrit Bharat Scheme for redevelopment. With an average daily footfall of approximately 7657 passengers, Abohar Railway Station is set to undergo a remarkable transformation. The station is being redeveloped at an estimated cost of ₹25.87 crore to upgrade its facilities and transform it into a modern, customer-friendly transportation hub. The station was selected for redevelopment to address key concerns, including congestion in the circulating areas, limited passenger amenities, inadequate accessibility features, insufficient lighting and safety measures, and outdated infrastructure.

The redevelopment of Abohar Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) marks a new era in Indian Railways infrastructure. The project aims to enhance the overall passenger experience by providing modern amenities, improved aesthetics, and efficient station operations.

The redevelopment focuses on passenger comfort and accessibility through upgraded entry and exit points, spacious waiting areas, an executive lounge, clean toilets, lifts, and Divyangjan-friendly facilities.

The project also emphasizes sustainable and environmentally conscious development. The station building has been designed to maximize natural daylight, reduce heat gain, and improve energy efficiency through the use of low-energy LED lighting. Existing trees are being preserved, while native species are being planted to promote local biodiversity and create green spaces within the station premises.

Special attention has been given to accessibility for Divyangjan passengers by providing clear signages and public announcement systems, entrance ramps, reserved parking, low-height ticket counters, Divyangjan-friendly washrooms, help booths near station exits, tactile guiding paths on platforms, accessible drinking water booths, and lifts to ensure seamless movement throughout the station.

The work of Abohar Railway Station Main Building is almost nearing completion as only minor finishing work is in progress.
