Delhi Division Takes Multi-Pronged Steps to Upgrade and Ensure Drinking Water Quality at Railway Stations and Railway Colonies

In line with Indian Railways' directive on strengthening water infrastructure and safety management, Delhi Division, Northern Railway has initiated a comprehensive drive to overhaul water supply systems across railway stations, workplaces, and railway residential colonies.  The drive focuses on  moving beyond conventional end-point testing to ensure clean, safe and hygienic drinking water for passengers and railway employees.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Overhaul & Cleaning Drive of Storage & Filtration Tanks is being  done as per laid down schedule. It is being ensured that all storage tanks are fitted with covers and protected vents to prevent external contamination. Thorough leak-detection checks are being conducted across the entire distribution network. Immediate repairs and replacements of damaged pipes, taps and valves are being executed to prevent seepage and minimize water loss.  Complete isolation between potable drinking water circuits and non-potable utility supply lines to eliminate any possibility of cross-contamination.  Routine servicing, overhauling, and replacement of filter candles/cartridges in  RO purification units attached to water coolers and Water Vending Machines (WVMs) are being carried out.  Sanitation and maintenance drives around station water coolers and passenger-dispensing booths have been mandated to maintain 100% hygiene in surrounding areas.  Rigorous Testing  is being regularly conducted by Railway medical personnel and engineering teams.  Daily residual-chlorine monitoring is strictly enforced

Recognizing that employee welfare directly impacts operations, identical sanitation, testing, and infrastructure maintenance protocols are being applied in residential colonies, railway health units, and workplace offices across the Division. Residential overhead tanks and ground supply pipelines in major railway colonies  are undergoing scheduled maintenance and water-quality audits. Corrective action taken is being compiled and monitored at the Divisional level.

Shri Pushpesh Raman Tripathi, Divisional Railway Manager Delhi said that Ensuring uninterrupted access to safe and clean drinking water is a top priority for Delhi Division. Through continuous monitoring, strict maintenance routines we are committed to providing the highest standards of water hygiene to millions of passengers and our railway family members every day."
