Indian Railways has been a witness and catalyst of India's economic development. Trains and railway stations have played an important role in the freedom movement. Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and other freedom fighters used to travel from one city to another by train. In this way Indian Railways is directly and indirectly associated with the freedom struggle and has made significant contribution to independence. To convey this historical tradition to the masses and to explain the historical context of stations to the future generations, it has been decided to celebrate Station Mahotsav. Its main objective is to make the railway employees and local people aware of the history of the railway station i.e. information related to the establishment of the railway station. The main objective of these various activities was to showcase people's engagement with the station.
