Delhi Division makes arrangement of additional waiting area for passengers at four major stations of Delhi Area during the winter season
In Delhi, cold is at its peak in the month of January. Due to heavy fog in Northern parts of the country, normal movement of trains is hampered to ensure safe running of trains. Trains originating or passing through major stations of Delhi area are required to be rescheduled.
Delhi Division of Northern Railway has enhanced the waiting area for the passengers at the four major railway stations i.e. New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar Terminal. Covered tents are provided at New Delhi (Ajmeri Gate side) and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations while additional space has been provided at Anand Vihar Terminal, Old Delhi and New Delhi (Paharganj) in the station building itself as waiting area. Carpeting has been provided in these waiting areas. At New Delhi Railway station and Old Delhi Railway Station additional waiting area has been provided at both entry i.e. at Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj side of New Delhi and Kashmere Gate and Chandni Chowk side of Old Delhi. The additional waiting area provided at New Delhi is 6142 sq. ft. , Hazrat Nizamuddin is 4150 sq. ft., Old Delhi is 6000 sq. ft. and Anand Vihar Terminal is 1720 sq. ft. Regular announcements are being made on Public Address system for the information of passengers regarding these waiting areas. These waiting areas are open 24 hours and are easily accessible.
Shri Sukhvinder Singh, Divisional Railway Manager Delhi said that heating arrangement has been made in the existing as well as the additional waiting halls/areas at these stations to ensure that passengers can waiting in a warm and safe environment.
