NORTHERN RAILWAY CRACKS DOWN ON TOUTS, TRAVEL AGENCIES AND RAIL PASSENGERS TRAVELLING ON TRANSFERRED TICKETS

Preventive checks were intensifiedduring the Summer Rush from April to June’ 2011 by Commercial (Anti fraud squad of HQ) and Vigilance with the assistance of RPF at Reservation and Booking Offices at various locations and raids were conducted against touts and unauthorised travel agencies indulging in illegal business of sale of rail tickets and in trains to detect persons travelling on other’s names(tickets)over Northern Railway.

16UNAUTHORISED TRAVEL AGENCIES

In the raid 16 unauthorised travel agencies were apprehended and 157 tickets were recovered from the agencies. The persons present in the agencies were handed over to RPF for further prosecution u/s 143 of Railway Act.

286 TOUTS APPREHENDED AND PROSECUTED

286 Touts were apprehended at Reservation Offices at various locations and 136 tickets were recovered from them. They were handed over to RPF for prosecution under section 143 & 144 of Railway Act.

783 PERSONS FOUND TRAVELLING ON TRANSFERRED TICKETS

During the surprise check, Northern Railways commercial department along with Ticket Checking Staff caught passengers travelling on transferred tickets.783 persons were caught during the checks conducted from April to June’ 2011 on various trains. An amount of Rs.4,52,329/- was realised as fare and fine from them.
