PASSENGER EARNINGS REGISTERED AN INCREASE OF 7.83%

DURING APRIL – JUNE 2011

 

Northern Railway has been expanding the number of Passenger Reservation System for easy booking of tickets & to reach to door steps of people. There are about 349 Passenger Reservation Service (PRS) locations functioning over Northern Railway at present, of which 38 were commissioned during 2010-2011 & 1 in 2011-2012 (upto June 11). Another 27 locations over Northern Railway have been approved for opening P.R.S. Counters & 2 at Post Offices for the no. of passengers traveling by rail is increasing.

 

The performance of Northern Railway in Passenger Reservation System and Non-passenger reservation system earning and number of passengers has shown substantial improvement in the first 20 days of July 2011. During the period 1-20 days of July, 2011 the number of Passengers Booked (PRS) showed an increase of 23.19% over previous year as it increased from 38.04 Lac in 2010-11 to 46.89 Lac in 2011-12. Similarly the earnings from PRS showed an increase of 20.43%with earning of Rs 18092.31 Lac in 2010-11 to Rs 21789.86 Lac in 2011-12. In case of Non-passenger reservation system the number of passengers increased by 5.40 % from 168.42 Lac in 2010-11 to 177.51 Lac in 2011-12 and earning increased by 15.82% from Rs 4708.99 Lacin 2010-11 to Rs 5453.05 Lac in 2011-12. In both PRS & Non PRS , during the first 10 days of July 2011, the growth in passengers was6.88% with increase from 186.92 lacs in 2010-11 to 199.78 lacs in 2011-12. Earnings increased by 16.71% from Rs. 13507.35 lacsin 2010-11 to Rs. 15764.31 lacsin 2011-12.

 

The number of passengers booked during April-June 2011 under the PRS & Non PRS location together were 1762.99 Lac as against 1694.80 during the corresponding period of 2010-2011, there by showing an increase of 4.02% while the passenger earnings from both P.R.S. & Non-PRS showed an increase of 7.83%,Rs. 133731.99 Lac during April-June 2011-2012 as against Rs. 124017.74 during the corresponding period last year.

 

The PRS alone have registered an increase of 8.6% in the sale of tickets during April-June 2011 with absolute figures running into 197.07 Lac as against 181.46 Lac during the corresponding period in 2010. While the Passenger Earnings increased by 7.64% with Rs. 87754.46 Lac as against earnings of Rs. 81522.32 Lac during April-June 2010.

 

The position with regard to Non-PRS sale of tickets showedan increase of 3.47%, with sale of 1565.92 Lac tickets during April-June 2011 as against 1513.34 lacs during April- June 2010. The total passenger earnings wereRs. 45977.53 Lac during April-June 2011 as against Rs. 42495.42 Lac during the corresponding period in 2010 there by registering an impressive increase of 8.19%.
