NORTHERN RAILWAY TIGHTENS SECURITY TO PROVIDE BETTER SAFETY & SECURITY TO RAIL PASSENGERS
In recent past there have been news of criminal activities against railway passengers likedrugging, thefts, robbery, snatching etc. over Northern Railway.
General Manager, Northern Railway has viewed this very seriously and on 25.8.11 he held a high level meeting with senior Railway Officers, Chief Security Commissioners/Railway Protection Force of neighbouring zones, security officers and officers of State Govt. to check these incidents. He directed that the following measures be intensified by the Northern Railway for curbing/checking the crime.
·Most of the important Mail/Express/Passenger and local trains being escorted by RPF & GRP over the jurisdiction of Northern Railway would be strictly monitored.RPF/N. Rly.escorting 143 numbers of Mail/Express/Passenger & local trains. While GRP is escorting 545 numbers of Mail/Express/Passenger & local trains.
·Surprise checks are being conducted and should be intensified on train escort parties by supervisory officers and GOs.
·Anti-Drugging squads are functioning in the divisions to detect such crimes.Passengers are being sensitized through Public Announcement System and through Loud Hailers by RPF at important stations not to accept any food or drink from strangers. Also leaflets and posters are being pasted at stations and in trains for awareness of passengers. The same should be intensified.
·Queue system is being maintained for boarding the unreserved compartments by RPF and they sensitize the passengers standing in queues against drugging. The same should continue.
·High profile pressure of RPF on platforms and surveillance on drugging offenders has been intensified.
·The major cause of these incidents is the encroachment by Jhuggi dwellers near the tracks. The passengers are advised not to open the train doors when the train is approaching the station. For the speed of the train is such that miscreants can enter the coaches and commit crime.Passengers are also being made aware of the dangers of keeping luggage near doors while approaching/departing stations where train stops.General Manager, Northern Railway directed during the meeting that strict monitoring be done in view of festival season when such incident increases.General Manager would personally monitor the progress of the drive on daily basis.
