GENERAL MANAGER, NORTHERN RAILWAYHOLDS A PRESS CONFERENCE

ON THE ARRANGEMENTS MADE BY NORTHERN RAILWAY

TO ENSURE PASSENGER CONVENIENCE AND SAFE RUNNING OF TRAINS DURING THE FOGGY WEATHER TODAY

 

Sh. V.K.Gupta, General Manager, Northern Railway held a Press Conference on the arrangements made by Northern Railway to ensure passenger convenience and safe running of trains during the ensuing foggy weather today( 7.12.2012) at Northern Railway Headquarters Office, Baroda House, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi . Sh. Mohd. Jamshed Sr. Deputy General Manager, Northern Railway and Principal Officers of various departments were also present on the occasion.

            Northern Railway has chalked out a detailed safety and operational plan to gear up to challenge of fog through a multi-pronged strategy. Northern Railway had commenced planning of trains operations in September and has cancelled 13 pairs of trains, partially cancelled 3 pairs of trains and diverted 2 pairs of trains. The Railway has also overhauled its safety machinery to ensure zero failure of its equipment and working systems.

Monitoring & Upkeep of Signalling Systems remains a paramount priority during the foggy weather. Safety precautions through drives, training programmes of train crew and Safety training of front line staff have been undertaken to ensure utmost safety. The Railway is also providing technology aided devices viz. Fog Safe/Fog Pass Devices to all running staff and front line staff to ensure absolute safety in train operations on trial basis. Train Protection Warning System (TPWS) modification has been completed in 17 WAP7 locomotives with E-70 brake system. Emergency stop buttons (BPEMS) have been fitted in 107 locomotives by Electric Loco Shed Ghaziabad & Ludhiana.

Also arrangements are being taken to ensure passenger convenience during train delays due to foggy conditions. Well trained Inquiry officers staff in complete uniform with good vocal skill will be deployed during this period along with opening of two more additional counters at New Delhi and one each at Delhi Jn., Anand Vihar and Hazrat Nizamuddin on need basis.Large size display boards will be displayed so that passengers can see information at a glance while entering the station. Additional PRS counters will be opened to facilitate passengers seeking refund in case of cancellation and trains running late for more than three (3) hours during this period. Regular announcements for trains running late will be made. Availability of Medical team and Ambulances facilities is also beingdone at nominated stations.
