Medical Department

The Northern Railway Divisional Hospital, Delhi is one of the oldest hospitals in the history of the Indian Railways. It was established in 1936. It is secondary level hospital with 50 beds. The hospital is headed by the Chief Medical Superintendent/Delhi who is assisted by 41+1 medical officers and paramedical staff in his work. There are 16 health units attached with this hospital.

Out Patient Department: - Total No. of OPD patient this year was 606055.

Casualty: - Medical Officers and Paramedical Staff provided round the clock casualty services to the railway employees and their dependent in addition to attending station call and managing train accidents.

Treatment of HIV + and TB patients: - HIV and TB patients are treated at DH/DLI.

Screening And Counseling for HIV & AIDS: - Counseling services for HIV and AIDS patients are available at Divl. Hospital, Delhi.

Reimbursement cases: - Reimbursement cases finalized during the year: 455 out of 463(98.3%). Total amount reimbursed Rs. 2,15,44,715/- during the year.

Measures for prevention of blindness: - Computerized Ocular Perimetry is done for Glaucoma patients to prevent blindness. This test is only available at Divisional Hospital, Delhi Main in Northern Railway.

Lab. Investigations: - A Functional Pathology Lab. is available at the Divisional Hospital. Basic facilities for the following are available:-

5. One Pvt. Lab. is also empanelled for Blood Investigation required.

Water Quality Lab.:- A water quality lab. which functions under Pathology Lab. at Divisional Hospital, Delhi is also available for checking the quality of water for the whole  of Delhi Division. A total of 2592 Waster samples were tested. 29023Water samples were tested for residual chlorine during the year.

Health case at door step:-  A Mobile Dispensary is available  for the benefit of the Railway beneficiaries in Delhi area for places where Health Units are not located at the  convenient distance, area are as under:-

Preventive Disaster Management Duties: - During summer and festival rush period disaster management duties have been regularly undertaken by the Divisional Hospital doctors and Para Medical staff NDLS, DLI, ANVR, & HNZM stations.

Pulse Polio Immunization: - A total of 54626 children were administered polio drops in four rounds.

Ambulance Service: - Round the clock ambulance services are available at the Divisional Hospital and at the Health Units of GZB Bhoor, TKD, DKZ & SSB.

Primary Prevention of Health: - Numerous Health Check-up Camps have been organized at various Health Units under the Divl. Hospital, Delhi and at different work places like DRM Office, construction office etc. as a part of the Annual Wellness Awareness Camps (AWAC). Wellness Camps were also organized at major stations throughout the jurisdiction of DH/DLI.  Last year a total of 14 camps were organized in which 899 people were examined.

Annual Wellness Assurance Camp: - Health check up of all railway employees was done at their respective work places by organizing camps. A total 2064 employees have been examined till date in 17 camps.

Safety Measures: - Safety in Indian Railways is of paramount importance. In order to meet any emergency and to maintain safety standard of Railways, the medical department of Delhi Division has provided Augmented First Aid boxes at all A-1 stations. Basic First Aid Boxes have been provided at other stations in the peripheral areas.

Rajdhani / Shatabdi Trains originating from DLI, NDLS,& HNZM have also been provided with Augmented First Aid  Boxes.

ARME scale-1 has been stationed at the old Delhi Railway Station.

Vector Control Measures: -

(a) Inauguration of Mosquito Terminator Train with 5 cycles at every three weeks interval in collaboration with NDMC was done on 3rd Aug 2018 with aim to control mosquito breeding along the railway tracks.

(b) A team of malaria inspector along with staff regularly conducted anti- malarial drive in which two cycles per month of Anti Malarial spray and fogging of pesticide in the railway colonies and offices under jurisdiction of Delhi division undertaken Anti - larvae measures also has been taken by this team.

Sanitation Contracts and Measures: -

1. 16 Contracts in sanitation were awarded this year for 54 railway colonies having approximately 13000 housing units.

2. Temporary intensive sanitation drive was undertaken contractually at Basant Lane, Karnail Singh stadium and peripheral areas.

3. Two mechanized super suckers jet machine have been taken on contract for cleaning of chocked drains in Railway Colonies.

4. Information, Education and Counseling (IEC) posters and pamphlets distributed to spread awareness among Railway beneficiaries for prevention of Malaria, Dengue and Chickengunia.

5. Door to door checks done for checking the breeding of larva of mosquito. It was done   independently   as well as with MCD/NDLS.

Recent Curative Measures

Total number of surgeries conduced at Divl. Hospital, Delhi main has increased significantly after the posting of a surgeon and an orthopedician. Laparoscopic surgeries have also been started.

1. 13 special, 397 major, 660 minor and 369 cataract surgeries were performed this year.

2. Advance surgeries successfully conducted at D/DLI are listed below:-

  • Radical Mastectomy,
  • Lap Cholecystectomy,
  • Hysterectomy
  • Total Knee Replacement.
  • Hip replacement.

Radiological Investigation Facility: - A computerized Radiological system (Digital X-Ray) facility is available at Divl. Hospital, Delhi.

In–House investigations for vector borne diseases: - Several new investigations were introduced at Pathology Lab. /Divl. Hospital, Delhi Main, These include;

1. Rapid Dagnostic Test(RDT) for Malaria Antigen. This is a Hrp and LDH based test, based on the latest guidelines by National Vector Borne Diseases Control (NVBDC).

2. NS 1 Antigen for Dengue Serology.

3. IgM  for Checkungynya was started  in house.

4. Analyzer  procured for HbA 1C  measurement. 

CME for keeping abreast with latest trends in medicine: - Lectures are organized regularly, and attended by all the doctors of Delhi Divl. Hospital, Latest trends in medical fields are explained in detail during the CME.

Public Awareness Campaigns: - Health Exhibitions are organized for public awareness regarding personal and dental Hygiene, Health Hazards and how to mitigate their effects to have a healthy life.

Training for staff: - Regular trainings is provided to para medial staff with respect to universal precaution against HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis –B, use of gloves, mask, proper hand washing  and proper disposal of needles to avoid needle prick injuries, awareness for immunization regarding Hepatitis etc.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyann

1. A new experimentation was done by the Medical Department in reference to the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan”. Swachhta Pakhwada was organized at Divisional Hospital Delhi and its associated Health Units from 15.09.2018 to 29.09.2018.

2. During this pakhwada “Swachta Samwad”  cleanliness drive was held in the premise of divisional hospital and health units in which painting and posters competition on the theme of cleanliness.

3. Anti littering notices were displayed in railway colonies, Hospitals and health units to create awareness for cleanliness were conducted.

4. “Combined Sharamdaan” to clean the respective premises and swachhta pledge through pamphlets was done by Hospital in-charge, health unit in-charges and concerned CHI with their supporting staff.

Plantation Drive

As part of green imitative more than 1024 saplings were planted over and across the jurisdiction of DH/DLI and associated health units.

Comprehensive Medical  Care

Delhi Divisional Hospital has empanelment of 40 Private Hospitals over Delhi Division to take care of the needs of the Railway beneficiaries under emergency condition. Seven labs have been empanelled for lab. investigations at SMQL, JHI, FDB, TKD Arya Nagar, Bhoor GZB and SSB One imaging lab and one pathology lab are empanelled for Delhi Divisional Hospital,
