Health is a state of Complete physical, medical and social well-being and not merely the absence.

True to the ideals of welfare, Medical Department is pursuing thepolicy of progressively improving both the working and living condition of the Railway beneficiaries, besides providing them with maximum possible facilities in the medical sphere.

Divisional Hospital under Medical Department Ambala Division was established on 3rd December 1934 by SIR HASSAN SUHRAWARDY the thenCMO under British Rule and now providing comprehensive Health Care curative service to railway beneficiaries. We are also committed to providing quality Health Care service using the modern techniques which are also cost effective. It is secondary level hospital with 119 beds. It provides secondary level health care with industrial care to Railway and RELHS beneficiaries residing in UP & Himachal, Punjab and Haryana state.

Functions related to Industrial Medicine:-

·To attend Railway accident & other untoward incidences.

·To provide emergency medical treatment to travelling sick passengers.

·Medical Examination to allow only fit & suitable candidates tojoin the services.

·PME (Periodical medical Examination) of serving employees to allow fit person to continue in those jobs which are related to safe running of the train.

·Medical board & other medical certificate or serving employees.

·Control on loss of man days on account of sickness (both normal& HOD). It is kept under control by medical officers.

·Safe water supply at Railway stations.

·A constant vigil is maintained to check on quality of drinking water made available at Railway Stations.

·Safe food supply at Railway Stations following activities are undertaken to ensure safe food supply at Railway Stations:-

 

* Regular Inspections of Kitchens and food stalls.

* Regular Health Checkup of food handlers.

* collection offood samples under quality control system.

* Certification of Perishable goods in Railway Stations about their disposal is done as and when required.

·Medical first aid boxes are provided to all railway premises/offices/stations etc.

·Certification of dead bodies at Railway stations, Yards, Tracksetc is being done on regular basis.

Functions related to Medical Treatment to Railway Beneficiaries:-

Total comprehensive Medical treatment is provided by Indian Railways Medical department. It includes:

1.Curative health care at Primary level, Secondary level and Tertiary level.

2.Preventive health care.

3.Pro-motive health care.

Out Patient Department:-

Out patient care including diagnosis, intervention, and rehabilitation services is being provided.

Indoor patient department:-

·IPD with 65 Bed strength with Male and Female separate wards. Inpatient care is given to the patients whose condition requires admission. They get admitted through OPD and casualty.

·24 Hrs Oxygen Supply through 250 PSA Oxygen generation plants is available.

Emergency Services:-

Emergency and casualty services are provided round the clock in Division Hospital. Medical Officers and Paramedical Staff are on duty in the casualty round the clock toprovide service to the railway employees and their dependent. In addition to this station call and train accidents calls are attended round the clock.

·Psychiatry

·Dentistry

OT Services:-

A fully functional operation theater is functional in Division Hospital Ambala Cantt, Where Surgical Operations are carried out in aseptic environment. Gynae and Eye surgery . Surgeries are done.

Lab Investigations:-

A Functional Pathology Lab. Is available at the Divisional Hospital. Basic Facilities for the following are available:-

1.Haematology

2.Clinical Laboratory

3.Serology

4.Bio Chemistry

5.Four Pvt. Labs are also empanelled with N.Rly, Ambala Division for all blood investigations.

Radiological Investigation facility:- A computerized Radiological system (Digital X-Ray) facility is available at Divisional Hospital Ambala.

OPD for Sr. Citizens:-

OPD for Sr. Citizens: -

An exclusive OPD for Sr. Citizens is being run at the hospital with separate window for dispensing medicine to them.

Reimbursement cases: -

Re-imbursement of medical expenses incurred on treatment of Railway beneficiaries in private hospitals, the reimbursement is admissible as per policy.

IT Initiative: -

100% Implementation of IMMS for stock, receipts and issue of medical store items at Northern Railway Divisional Hospital, Ambala Cantt and all the Health Units -  Online demand started for medicine procurement Generation of OPD slips through HIMS using UMID and Other ID’s is being done at NRDH/UMB. 

Privilege Passes and PTO's have to be applied and availed online by railway employees. With this facility Railway employee is neither supposed to come to office for applying for Pass nor has to wait for pass being issued.

E-office implemented at Northern Railway Divisional Hospital/Ambala Cantt and at all associated health units. It is an integrated file and record management system, now it is being used by all officers and office working to manage content, search for data internally and collaborate.

The HMIS in Railways has been developed by Indian Railways in coordination with RailTel Corporation Limited. The objective of the HMIS is to provide a single window of clearance of hospital administration activity such as clinical, diagnostics, pharmacy, examinations, industrial health etc.

Safety Measures:-

Safety is accorded the highest priority in Indian Railways, it is of paramount importance. In order to meet any emergency, the medical department of Ambala Division has provided following measures: -

ARME Scale-1

ARME scale-1 (SPARMV) have been stationed at the Railway station, Ambala Cantt,. It forms a unit of the accident relief train. The function of the vehicle is to carry Medical equipments to the site of accident so that prompt Medical Aid could be rendered and injured persons can be transported expeditiously to the nearest hospitals.

ARME Scale-2

Boxes of ARME Scale- 2 are provided at Station Master Room at the following stations: - Augmented First Aid Boxes at HW & BE.

POMKA (Portable Medical Kit for Accident): -

They are provided in all health units and Divisional Hospital.

Disaster Management during summer and festival rush:-

During summer and festival rush period special disaster management duties have been regularly undertaken by the Divisional Hospital, Contractual doctors and Para-Medical staff are on duty round the clock at the Stations.

24 x 7 Ambulance Service:-

Round the clock ambulance services are available at the Divisional Hospital and Health Unit,.
